Ideal Pet Sitter Profile

Avid Animal Lover
If you don’t love animals, this job isn’t for you. While most of our pets are well-behaved, they all have ways to protect themselves—whether through teeth, claws, barks, or hisses. These challenges can be frustrating, and without a genuine passion for animals, this job won’t be enjoyable.
We care for a variety of animals—dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises, birds, and fish—though we occasionally interact with their human owners as well.

Has Another Source of Income
Ally 4 Pets is a supplemental income source, not a full-time job, with varying hours each week.
It’s a great fit for at-home freelancers, teachers on break, military spouses, or retirees (nurses, doctors, vet techs). We also offer bonuses for referring new clients to help grow our business.

Not Used as a Pit Stop
This position is best for those committed to animal-related work, such as aspiring veterinarians or veterinary technicians. It offers valuable experience and potential connections to other animal jobs.
We’re looking for long-term team members, with a minimum 3-month commitment. Clients and pets form strong bonds with their sitters, so we need dedicated, consistent individuals. One sitter is assigned per client to maintain continuity, and we prefer sitters who can handle all visits for their assigned clients.

Has a home computer and smartphone
We use user-friendly software to manage scheduling, client information, and communication with both clients and team members, as well as to maintain up-to-date pet care details. The system is intuitive and accessible, even for clients who are not tech-savvy.
The platform includes both a website and a mobile app, allowing you to ask questions while at a client’s home and submit timely, detailed visit reports afterwards.

Great Communication Skills
After every visit, sitters are required to submit timely, detailed visit reports, including photos or videos whenever possible. Reports must be accurate, complete, and honest, documenting both positive observations and any concerns. Any issues such as diarrhea, aggressive behavior (including biting), or other notable changes—positive or negative—must be reported.
Visit notes are expected to include food and water intake, bathroom activity (litter box use or walks), and the pet’s overall demeanor, such as nervous, relaxed, happy, or hiding. Thorough and consistent reporting is a non-negotiable responsibility of this position and is essential to client trust and quality care.

Friendly and Warm
We treat every pet as a valued family member, and many of our clients place an exceptionally high level of trust in us. A sitter’s attitude and professionalism are reflected in all written and verbal communication and directly impact the client experience.
If a visit is delayed, a mistake is made, or you are having an off day, honesty with the client is required. We expect full transparency at all times, particularly when it concerns the care, safety, or well-being of their pets. Clear, respectful, and truthful communication is a core expectation of this role.

Detail Oriented and Organized
Clients depend on us to arrive on time for every scheduled visit. Because schedules and hours vary, sitters are expected to plan travel time carefully and realistically, taking into account traffic conditions, school schedules, road congestion, and personal commitments well in advance. Sitters must also set and double-check alarms to wake up on time, confirm alarms are correctly set for the next day, and, when needed, set departure alarms to ensure they leave on time to arrive as scheduled. Failure to properly plan for these factors is not an acceptable reason for late arrivals.
Sitters must be fully prepared before departing for each visit, including confirming possession of the correct key, a charged phone, a slip leash, and an emergency card. Consistent punctuality and preparedness are non-negotiable expectations and directly impact client trust and quality of care.

Highly Flexible
Our standard visit windows are 7:00–9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., 4:00–6:00 p.m., 7:00–9:00 p.m., and 9:00–11:00 p.m. (The 9:00–11:00 p.m. shift is available for an additional fee to the client). Mid-day dog walks typically fall between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with some flexibility available for clients who work non-traditional shifts.
Clients may schedule one to four visits per day, with standard visits lasting 45 minutes to one hour. Dog walks are a minimum of 30 minutes and may be longer depending on client needs and sitter availability. Backyard visits are 30 minutes.
While we make every effort to keep sitters consistently scheduled, this is a service-based business with seasonal fluctuations. There will be both busy and slower periods. Additional opportunities may be available, including bathing, nail trims, ear cleanings, extended stays, vendor events, and other special assignments.
Flexibility is essential. Sitters with broader availability can be matched with more clients and offered additional services, which directly impacts scheduling opportunities and overall earning potential.

Eager to Learn
Tiffany Jackson, our owner, is a licensed veterinary technician with extensive experience in veterinary medicine, animal rescues, and specialized internships at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. She earned her veterinary technology degree, successfully passed the national licensing exam, and maintains her Maryland license through ongoing professional education.
Tiffany is deeply passionate about helping clients provide the best care for their pets and is equally committed to mentoring her team. Sitters have the opportunity to learn practical skills, from nail trimming and basic medical observation to understanding conditions such as kidney disease or diabetes. We are dedicated to supporting your growth and professional development while maintaining the highest standard of care for every pet.

Must Pass a Background Check
All sitters are required to submit a background check before beginning work. If you have completed one in the last six months for another company, you may provide a copy. Otherwise, instructions will be provided to complete a background check online, at your expense.
Sitters who remain with Ally 4 Pets for six months or longer will be reimbursed for the cost of the background check. This policy ensures our clients feel safe and confident allowing sitters into their homes, as many homes are monitored with security cameras. Compliance with this requirement is mandatory for all team members.
