Ideal Pet Sitter Profile

Avid Animal Lover
If you don’t love animals, this job isn’t for you. While most of our pets are well-behaved, they all have ways to protect themselves—whether through teeth, claws, barks, or hisses. These challenges can be frustrating, and without a genuine passion for animals, this job won’t be enjoyable.
We care for a variety of animals—dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises, birds, and fish—though we occasionally interact with their human owners as well.

Has Another Source of Income
Ally 4 Pets is a supplemental income source, not a full-time job, with varying hours each week.
It’s a great fit for at-home freelancers, teachers on break, military spouses, or retirees (nurses, doctors, vet techs). We also offer bonuses for referring new clients to help grow our business.

Not Used as a Pit Stop
This position is best for those committed to animal-related work, such as aspiring veterinarians or veterinary technicians. It offers valuable experience and potential connections to other animal jobs.
We’re looking for long-term team members, with a minimum 3-month commitment. Clients and pets form strong bonds with their sitters, so we need dedicated, consistent individuals. One sitter is assigned per client to maintain continuity, and we prefer sitters who can handle all visits for their assigned clients.

Has a home computer and smartphone
We use software for scheduling, client information, communication with both clients, and keep up to date information on their pets. It’s easy to use, even for older clients who may not be tech-savvy.
The software has both a website and mobile app, which you can also use to ask questions while at the house and submit your reports afterward.

Great Communication Skills
After every visit, we send clients detailed notes with photos or videos when possible. We provide honest feedback—both positive and negative—about their pets. If a pet has diarrhea, bites us, or displays any notable behavior (e.g., being unusually sweet), we report it. Our updates include details on eating habits, bathroom usage (litter box or walks), and their overall mood (e.g., nervous, happy, or hiding).

Friendly and Warm
We treat pets like family, as many clients consider them more important than children. Your attitude is reflected in your messages and interactions. If you’re having a bad day or were late, be honest with the client—we believe in full transparency, especially when it comes to their pets.

Detail Oriented and Organized
Clients rely on us to be on time for pet visits. Since hours vary, plan for travel time, considering traffic, school schedules, and personal appointments. Also, ensure you’re prepared before leaving—have the correct key, phone, and sitter pack.

Highly Flexible
Our visit windows are 6-9 am, 11 am-3 pm, 4-6 pm, and 7-9 pm. Mid-day dog walks typically occur between 11 am-3 pm, but we’re flexible for shift workers. Visits can range from 1 to 4 times a day, lasting 45 minutes to an hour. Dog walks are at least 20 minutes, but longer if you enjoy walking, and backyard visits are 30 minutes.
While we aim to keep sitters busy, business has busy and slow seasons. We also offer additional services like bathing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, long stays, and attend vendor events and other opportunities.

Eager to Learn
Tiffany Jackson, our owner, is a licensed veterinary technician with extensive experience in veterinary medicine, animal rescues, and internships at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. She holds a veterinary technology degree, passed a national exam, and completes ongoing education to maintain her Maryland license.
Tiffany is passionate about helping clients care for their pets and enjoys teaching others new skills. Whether you want to learn how to trim nails, understand kidney disease or diabetes, or gain other skills, we’re committed to supporting your growth.

Must Pass a Background Check
All sitters must submit a background check. If you’ve had one done in the last 6 months for another company, just provide a copy. Otherwise, we’ll give you instructions to complete one online at your expense.
If you’re still with Ally 4 Pets after 6 months, we’ll reimburse you. This ensures our clients feel safe with sitters entering their homes and caring for their pets, as many have security cameras that monitor visits.
